Authors
Chinese Optics Letters is a short-article journal for the rapid dissemination of new,
important results in all branches of optical science and technology and related
fields, published monthly by Science in China Press and distributed by the
Optical Society of America.
Call for Papers
The Chinese Optics Letters journal invites original manuscript submissions for a Focus Issue on Nano-Optics to be published in October 2008.
Submission of Papers
Authors are requested to submit the
manuscript to Chinese Optics Letters Manuscript Office, P. O. Box 800-211,
Shanghai 201800, P. R. China; Phone: 0086-21-69918198; Fax: 0086-21-69918098.
Send your article as an attachment to col@mail.shcnc.ac.cn
or submit@siom.ac.cn. Electronic
files of LaTeX (submitting with PDF file) and MS Word are acceptable.
Submission of a manuscript must be the
original work of the author(s) and have not been published elsewhere or under
consideration for another publication, or a substantially similar form in any
language.
Authors are encouraged to recommend three
to five individuals (including their addresses, phone numbers and e-mail
addresses) who are qualified to serve as referees for their paper.
Manuscript Preparation
Download COL Manuscript Template (MS Word)
from http://www.col.org.cn/.
COL provides template for MS Word to assist
with formatting. The template will allow you to type in the title, author
names, affiliations, abstract, OCIS codes, tables, figures, references, and
body of your manuscript in preset formats. You will be able to use the
drop-down menu on the formatting toolbar to format your paper.
Note: All MS Word submissions should accord
with the "template" before the "peer review" process.
If you have questions or comments please
e-mail col@mail.shcnc.ac.cn.
All manuscripts should be written in
English. Letters should be no more than three journal pages (see "How to
estimate the length of your manuscript" below). All materials, including
references, figure captions, and tables, should be typed double-spaced on only
one side of white A4 paper with wide margin (at least 25 mm). Pages should be
numbered and font size should be 11 or 12 pt. The supporting organization and
the grant number should be given at the end of the manuscript.
1 Title: The title of the paper should be concise but informative.
2 Author
name(s): A list of all authors, as well as
corresponding addresses, fax numbers, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers
should be provided on the title page. Authors' names should be given in a
consistent form on all publications to facilitate indexing.
3 Abstract: The abstract should not be longer than 100 words and have no
references. It should be informative, without descriptive words or citations,
and contain the major conclusions and quantitative results or other significant
items in the paper. Together with the title, the abstract must be adequate as
an index to all the subjects treated in the paper, and will be used as a base
for indexing.
4 OCIS codes: All manuscript must be given 2-4 OCIS codes below the abstract, the
principal index code should be placed first.
5 Main body of
the paper: The body of the paper should include all
the information of the research, but no subtitles.
6 Formulas: Formulas should be typewritten, punctuated and aligned to bring out
their structure, and numbered consecutively in round brackets on the right-hand
side of the page.
7 Notation: Notation must be legible, clear, compact, and consistent with
standard usage. All unusual symbols whose identity may not be obvious,
including subscript or superscript must be identified with pencil in the
margin. Physical and mathematical variables should be in italic, vectors in
boldface. Units, abbreviations and special functions should be upright. Please
add a note to explain any other special symbols.
8 Figures: Figures should be original laser prints with high contrast prints,
suitable for immediate reproduction, typed on a separate sheet and identified
on the back by its number and the name of the first author. They will normally
be reduced to one column width (6-8 cm). In the figures, the main lines should
be about 0.3 mm in width, and the assistant lines 0.15 mm. Notations in the
figures should be distinct and consistent with the same ones in the text, and
their font size will be 7-9 pt. The positions of figures should be marked in
the text by boxes of a suitable size. Each figure should have its own caption,
type captions double-spaced on a separate sheet. Original photographs must be
supplied with good contrast and clearly distinguishable details.
9 Tables: Tables, numbered in order of appearance, should be appended on
separate sheets and identified with appropriate titles. The table title, which
should be brief, goes above the table. A detailed description of its contents
or table footnotes should be given directly below the body of the table.
10 References: References must be published work, and numbered consecutively in
the order of their first citation. References should be listed individually at
the end of the text and indicated in the text with a superscript number in
square brackets. All of the references' authors, as well as the titles of the
referenced articles, should be given. Here are some examples of how to set the
most common reference types:
10.1 Journals: M. Zhang, P. Ye, F. Zhang, Y. Zhao, and J. Wang, NOLM-based
wavelength conversion with FBG band-pass filter for optical packet switching,
Chin. Opt. Lett. 1, 3 (2003).
10.2 Books:
N. Bloembergen, Nonlinear Optics (Benjamin, New York, 1965).
10.3 Conference proceedings: R. E. Kalman, in Proceedings of Advanced Seminar on Genralized
Inverse and Applications, M. Z. Nashed, ed. (Academic, San Diego, Calif.,
1976), p. 111.
10.4 Patents: A. C. Hart, Jr., R. G. Huff, and K. L. Walker, "Method of
making a fiber having low polarization mode dispersion due to a permanent
spin," U.S. patent 5,298,047 ( March 29, 1994).
Review, Revision, Proof and Copyright
Authors will receive a letter informing
them whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected in two months. Authors
should return their revisions to the copy editor within two weeks of receipt.
When an article has been amended in compliance with the comments of referee(s),
an electronic file of the final version should be sent with the revised
manuscript. Electronic files can be sent on disk or via e-mail.
As the manuscript has been accepted, all
authors should transfer the copyright of the article, including that of the
printing and on-line version, to the publisher. All authors must sign the
Transfer of Copyright Agreement before the article can be published. This
transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.
Proofs will be sent to the authors about
one week before its publication, and should be returned preferably within 48
hours to avoid publication delays.
How to estimate the length of your manuscript
Manuscript submitted to Chinese Optics
Letters should be no longer than three journal pages. It should be better
for your manuscript to have a total number of characters of about 17000 .
Authors could account the number of
characters in their manuscript by using some common tools. Note that blanks,
the figures and tables in the manuscript must be taken account into the total
value. You can estimate the space for figures and tables as follows.
If one of your figures is in suitable size
(about 8-cm-wide), you can measure its height and get a value. For example, it
is 4.8 cm in height. Divide it by 0.4 cm, and then multiply the result by 55
characters, you can figure out the figure holds the space of about 660
characters. For figures wider than 8 cm, you should double the result.
For a table, try your best to simplify it.
And then, count the number of lines and add 2 lines. If the table must be wider
than 8.5 cm, you should double the result. After doing this, multiply the
result by 55.
Sum up the obtained values. If the result
is larger than 17000, please check your manuscript again and make some
condensation. Make use of the journal pages.
At last, submit it to Chinese Optics Letters (mail to col@mail.shcnc.ac.cnor submit@siom.ac.cn).
